Howdy everyone, Rev here with a review of the newest PAX 3 portable vape. As some of you know I am a huge fan of vaporizing my flowers and I vape more than 80% of the time, and for plenty of good reasons that I will share with you. About 2 years ago I had a PAX 2 and it only lasted me about a year before it developed an issue and became unusable. My original PAX 1 lasted me over 3 years going strong the whole time, before developing an issue with the mouthpiece, but it was still totally usable. I have had my PAX 3 about a month now, and I bought it myself for $215.00 which I think is well worth it. Let’s get into it…
What Exactly Is the PAX 3?
The PAX 3 is the 3rd version of the original PAX flower vaporizer; a highly portable vape. The PAX 3 also has an attachment that allows you to vaporize concentrates like Honey Oil, Shatter, etc. I haven’t used the concentrate bowl yet, but I will in an upcoming article as a sidebar or whatever, and let you all know how it works. I’m just a tad fussy about my Honey Oil and am disappointed when it turns out to be from synthetically grown cannabis—yuk—but I will get some Honey Oil here in the near future and let ya all know. Essentially what a flower vaporizer does is, it heats the cannabis to temperatures that will not burn anything, but rather will literally vaporize all the resin from that cannabis—super elegant and efficient, with quality vaporizers.
The PAX 3 has the capacity to hold about a normal sized doobie per bowl, and works great for a session with a friend, but won’t really kill it with 3 people; depending upon tolerance levels and product potency, but still works all good. It recharges in about 2 hours and that is good for 5 or 6 bowls. I would get a small wire brush and some 99% Isopropyl Alcohol with my PAX, in order to clean the bowl screen with; and if you use it every day, multiple times per day, you’ll need to clean it about once every 10 days or so.
When you turn on the PAX 3 it only takes it about 20 seconds to reach vaping temperature, and it also has a small vibration alert when it comes to temp and when it goes on standby; which is super handy when baked!
This is a high-quality cannabis tool here, and it maintains perfect vaping temps. I have used several less spendy portable flower vaporizers and none really comes close to the PAX, in my opinion. As a side note here, for those of you in colder realms, the PAX is also a great hand-warmer. It has 4 temperature settings for vaping, I always use mine on ¾ or 100% power. I always cough with a vape—duh, it’s honey oil basically—but I swear it’s a “good cough” and with a cold or something, it actually clears my lungs somewhat—it (strongly) seems to me. Even cannabis that isn’t that great, or that has seeds in it, works just fine in a vaporizer.
Good Reasons to Start Vaping vs. Smoking Cannabis
Back in my 40’s I would smoke a lot of cannabis per day, compared to how much I vape today, and this has always been a diminishing amount over the years. In my late teens I could consume a whole vial of old school honey oil, some hashish, and plenty of doobies per day, and I would. This kept my tolerance so high it was hard to even really get high, except for my wake-n-bake session every morning. As I aged and became savvier, I reduced my intake accordingly; I didn’t have to, I have plenty of cannabis, but it’s just a good move all the way around in my opinion and experience.
Becoming a vaporizing cannabis consumer has a small downside and that is because of the highly refined experience of pure resin, after vaping for a time you will find smoking cannabis to be somewhat crude.
Many growers (especially outdoor growers) can often experience “feast or famine” when it comes to their cannabis supplies on hand, and here’s one of the ways vaping can make way more sense for you, as it reduces your consumption. When I first got my original PAX, about 7 or 8 years ago, I went from consuming about 1/8th of an ounce per day to about 1 or 2 grams per day, AND getting way higher, AND experiencing some wickedly refined flavors of the pure resin, AND having my lungs change over to a much healthier state, losing a pretty consistent cough I had from bongs and doobies galore, LoL.
I know $215.00 is a tad spendy for many, and I wouldn’t recommend this unit unless I was super happy with it all the way around. These days I only really consume about a gram a day maybe, some days more like 2 grams, it just depends what I am doing and what I am vaping. But even if you want to be a heavy consumer you can still pull it off with the PAX. What I like to do best is to load smaller bowls, like half-bowls and set it on ¾ power; this is my go-to PAX 3 methodology—Cheers Homeskillets!
I'm The Rev, and I have been with SKUNK for about a decade now. I hail from Southern California, spent mucho time in Northern California, and now reside in Southern Oregon; always coastal. I am an all natural style cannabis grower and I have written a couple books on the subject - check out True Living Organics 2nd Edition on Amazon - I have been growing for over 45 years, and I have been breeding cannabis for over 30 years. Check out kingdomorganicseeds.com to see some exotic selections. Growing connoisseur cannabis is what I teach mostly, growing it in living soil without using liquid organic nutrients to feed the plant. I am also a highly skilled synthetics grower, hydroponics, aeroponics, DWC/SWC/NFT, Ebb and Flow, and soilless, but I cringe when smoking synthetic grown herbs, so for the last 15 years or so I preach the artisan style of all natural growing, specializing in container growing.
