So You Wanna Get Rid of Bugs?

I ALWAYS GET THE SAME QUESTION, “I have bugs and I am about 2-5 weeks away from harvest. Can I use pesticide? Yes, but use bio-pesticide. Well, that’s if you don’t want to poison yourself. How do I get rid of bugs?

Steps to get rid of bugs

Put a filter on your air intake and place a couple of sticky traps in front of it. Take your shoes of and let the dog outside

Identify the bug or bugs and learn about their living and breeding habits!

Clean, clean, clean the floor and the entire environment.

Trim all infected, yellow and dead leaves. Cut useless branches at the bottom.

Take all infected garbage outside. I MEAN EVERYTHING OUTSIDE NOW!!!

Spray all plants with soapy Tobacco-Basco

Spray the pots, floor, air intake, fans, and even your shoes.

Take out your shopping list.

  • 200g pack of very cheap or dried up tobacco. (Yes, tobacco kills!)
  •  3 Tablespoons of garlic powder. (Not garlic salt!!!)
  •  2 Cinnamon sticks or 1 tablspoon powder
  •  3 cloves or 1/2 teaspoon of powder
  •  3 tablespoons of Tabasco

Freeze the extra Tobacco-Basco, it does not keep well. 7-10 days shelf life is about the max. Put all ingredients except for the Tabasco in 3 liters of water and warm it up slowly. BOIL for 20 minutes. This will kill all bacteria present in the tobacco. Let it cool down, filter the liquid with a paper coffee filter into a recycled plastic bottle and add the Tabasco. Make sure it is well filtered because it will clog up the sprayer. You now have the base for the entire process.

Add one or all of these ingredients in a 5-6 liter spray pump:

  • 30ml Citronelle
  • Pyrethrin – 30ml
  • 30ml Rotenone
  • 1 Cup of anti-bacterial mouthwash. (Stay away from the anti-plaque stuff)
  • 1 liter bottle of Tobacco-Basco
  • 1 liter bottle of natural black soap
  • 4 liters of clean water

Natural soap or Safer’s Soap is essential to dry out the eggs.

DO NOT USE SOAP ON FLOWERS! Same recipe with no soap for bug removal at blooming time. One half assed spray will create a resistant strain of bug, since many, if not all bugs reproduce on a 10 day cycle. Spray three times at seven day intervals. Don’t miss a day or think it’s over after the second spray. This stuff doesn’t work… you do!
