Salutations Earthlings. ???? I’m The Rev here at SKUNK, and today, the subject is cannabis water. True Living Cannabis Water! Here’s the super simple version of this dynamic below, and if you dial in your cannabis water you will be amazed at the giant differences it makes, all the way to enjoying the results. You know what I always say: “Happy Plants Make Happy Smoke.”
Growing any variety of cannabis will be enhanced bigtime, but this type of water is especially impressive when growing highly exotic varieties of cannabis—Oh La La baybee! Let’s get cracking…
Cannabis Water from 20,000 Feet
Long ago on planet Earth, before all of our large human brains got involved, pretty much all water, like all soil, was living, literally. Unfortunately, that cannot be said nowadays. Cannabis water, just like water you and your animals drink, should absolutely be truly alive baybee … Scientists know all about the wide diversity of microbeasties in all of our guts, and how beneficial (vital) they are to our health. Yet, we drink water full of a biocide (chlorine/monochloramine) that does damage to all those essential and helpful microbes. Interesting, no?
I also understand the need to have sterilization when you are running the water through who knows what, and then delivering it to the masses. I’m not a “let’s let the water run wild” kind of guy. Actually, I’m way more of a Bioremediation kind of guy. My other half and I, all our animals, and plants, all consume dechlorinated groundwater, that is indeed alive. I’ll show you all how I do it.
Groundwater: When I say groundwater, I am referring to just like it sounds—water from the ground. City tap/municipal water, spring and well water, also lake and river water, are all members of this category. A PPM value above 10 PPM.
Low PPM Water: When I say low PPM water, I am referring to that exactly. Rain, distilled, and reverse osmosis (R/O) filtered water, all fall into this category. A PPM value below 10 PPM.
Hard Water: Groundwater above 100 PPM falls into this category; for the purposes of this article.
If You Build it, They Will Come
The “they” in the heading refers to the microscopic life, as in microbes; I call them microbeasties. They are already everywhere, you need not add them to a cannabis growing dynamic, with the only caveat being Mycorrhizal fungus. Once you have groundwater dechlorinated, the occupation by the microbes begins. Dissolved minerals in the water are the food. Actively aerating this water with an air pump really brings it to life.
Below, I am going to break down a few water sources starting points, and show you how to enhance those sources of water to make your water not only alive, but very cannabis friendly. My cannabis water is a little different from the water we and our animals consume, but they’re both versions of living water.
Real fast before we get going, my household (for us and the animals) living water is very simply created. I just run my tap water through a duel active carbon filtration unit to remove the chlorine (Monochloramine). Then I just actively aerate it with an air-stone/air-pump. Groundwater like this is full of minerals, and anytime you have any source of nourishment available, life will come. Air, (dissolved) minerals, and water, are the three “magic” components here. Simply aerate your dechlorinated groundwater in a food grade storage container and boom … you have living water.
Cannabis Water: Starting with Hard and/or Bad Water
If your water source is hard groundwater, by which I mean above 100 PPM for the purposes of this article. Cannabis water that runs higher than 100 PPM can cause excess salts (mineral salts) to build up in containers, causing issues down the line. Along with hard water, you also don’t want to be using softened water either, as this softened water is normally rife with salts at toxic levels to plants.
HERE’S HOW WE DO: You have two options here with hard water, and really only one option if that water is bad—as in having high levels of sulfur, iron, Mn, etc. present, or possible pollutants. Bad water requires R/O filtering. You will end up with low PPM water, (see below dealing with low PPM water for what to do next). You could also R/O filter your hard water, but another option would be to dilute it with low PPM water.
Rev’s Tip
If your groundwater ends up being below 60 PPM, I would also bubble it with dolomite lime as recommended below for starting with low PPM water. In the link below is my favorite dual active carbon filtering unit. I use the CTO Plus carbon filter cartridges.
Simply find the ratios you need to mix, so your water ends up around 50 to 60 PPM and you are golden for cannabis water. You will need a Dual Filtering Unit Using Activated Carbon if chlorine (monochloramine) is involved. Get some food grade water storage containers—I use 6-gallon jugs 5-gallon buckets, and 5-gallon water bottles myself. Get air pumps, some airline, and air stones, to aerate this water, and there you have it. True living cannabis water!
Cannabis Water: Starting with Low PPM Water
You can start out with rain, distilled, R/O water; or, basically any water source that has less than 40 PPM as long as it’s been dechlorinated if necessary, and be golden for living cannabis water!
HERE’S HOW WE DO: What you will want to have here is some powdered Dolomite Lime, and you can find this online or at any decent nursery. If you have to get it in a granular, pelletized, or prilled, form, it HAS TO BE Fast Acting! It needs to say Fast Acting as in the photo above, otherwise it will suck for our purposes here today.
I like to use 5-gallon water bottles for this next step, but you can go with whatever size or container works for you. Here’s the dynamic. You will want an active/bubbling air-stone per 5-gallon container. The larger your container(s) for your cannabis water, the more powerful your air-pump(s) should be. Likewise, if you are bubbling several 5-gallon bottles, larger air-pumps will be needed.
Add about 1/16th of a teaspoon of powdered, or 1/8th of a teaspoon pelletized Dolomite Lime per gallon of low PPM water and bubble it with the air-stone for 24 hours. You will end up with some bad ass cannabis water at around 55 to 65 PPM with great levels of calcium and magnesium dissolved in it. Just pour this water off the top for your plants. You can leave this water with the dolomite lime bubbling in it for weeks if you want to, no worries.
